What is Guard Email for Gmail?

Guard Email is a privacy tool that creates unique email aliases which forward to your Gmail inbox. Instead of giving out your real email address, you use an alias — keeping your actual address hidden and protected.

How it works

  1. Install the add-on from the Google Workspace Marketplace
  2. Create an alias directly inside Gmail (e.g. yourname.shopping@m.guardemail.com)
  3. Use the alias when signing up for websites, newsletters, or services
  4. Emails arrive in your Gmail inbox, forwarded from the alias
  5. Disable or delete the alias anytime to stop receiving emails

Why use email aliases?

Stop spam at the source

When you give a website your real email and they sell it to spammers, you're stuck. With Guard Email, you simply disable that alias and the spam stops instantly.

Know who sold your data

Each alias is unique. If you start receiving spam on an alias you only gave to one company, you know exactly who shared your email address.

Protect against data breaches

When a service gets breached, your real email stays safe. Attackers only get the alias, which you can delete and replace in seconds.

Keep your inbox clean

Signing up for a one-time purchase? A free trial? A conference? Use a temporary alias, then disable it when you're done.

What email addresses do aliases use?

Aliases are created on the domain m.guardemail.com. For example, when you create an alias, you might get an address like example@m.guardemail.com. All emails sent to this address are forwarded to your Gmail inbox.

With a Pro subscription, you can create custom aliases — choosing the part before the @ symbol for easier organization.

Delivery speed

Emails sent to your alias are forwarded to your Gmail inbox with a slight delay. In most cases, delivery takes less than 30 seconds. Pro subscribers get priority delivery for even faster forwarding.

Important considerations

  • Don't use aliases for critical accounts. While we maintain high uptime, interruptions can occur. We recommend using your real email for banking, government services, and other essential accounts.
  • Alias deletion is permanent. Once you delete an alias, it cannot be recovered. Emails sent to a deleted alias will bounce.
  • Reply support. You can receive emails through aliases. To reply from an alias, use your Gmail address — the recipient will see your real email.
