Custom aliases

Custom aliases let you choose the name of your email alias instead of using a randomly generated one. This feature is available with a Pro subscription.

How custom aliases work

Instead of getting a random alias like xk7f9m@m.guardemail.com, you can create meaningful names:

  • shopping@m.guardemail.com — for online stores
  • newsletters@m.guardemail.com — for email subscriptions
  • social@m.guardemail.com — for social media accounts
  • trials@m.guardemail.com — for free trial sign-ups

Why use custom aliases?

Easy to remember

You can recall your alias without looking it up. Useful when filling out forms on mobile or when you don't have the add-on open.

Better organization

By naming aliases after their purpose, you can quickly see which service an email came from, even before opening it.

Professional appearance

Custom aliases look more intentional and professional than random strings of characters.

Rules for custom aliases

  • Must be unique — no two users can have the same alias
  • Only letters, numbers, dots, and hyphens are allowed
  • Minimum 3 characters
  • Cannot start or end with a dot or hyphen

Creating a custom alias

  1. Open Guard Email in your Gmail sidebar
  2. Click Create Alias
  3. Toggle Custom alias on
  4. Type your desired alias name
  5. Click Create

If the alias name is already taken, you'll be prompted to choose a different one.
